One Man’s Waste is Another Man’s Profit – Another Take
Just a brief analogy to help us understand how hard healthcare reform will be for us: Imagine we all woke up tomorrow to find that tobacco use had disappeared from the planet. I doubt that very many of us in healthcare would shed tears if that happened. Imagine the cancers and heart disease that would be avoided. Imagine the reduction in healthcare spending that would ensue. Could anyone be unhappy if there was no more tobacco? Now, imagine that you are a small farmer in North Carolina. You are working the land that your parents worked and their parents before them. You are putting a son through college and helping to care for your aging mother. The major cash crop from your farm is .... of course, tobacco. Or, assume you are a secretary at Reynolds American or you work in the warehouse at Philip Morris.
